Lightweight Steel Framing Architectural Design Guide
This publication was written to assist practicing Architects with the selection, design and detailing of wall and floor systems incorporating lightweight steel framing (LSF) members for low rise commercial as well as medium and high rise residential applications. It is the logical compliment to "Lightweight Steel Framing Design Manual" available from the CSSBI as a design guide for Structural Engineers.
A general description of lightweight steel framing products is presented along with a review of the advantages of this type of construction. Building science issues are discussed and the application of these principles is illustrated in a specific way for masonry veneer steel stud systems in low-rise commercial construction. A proposal for the allocation of design and construction responsibilities on a typical LSF project is also included.
Steel Stud Brick Veneer Design Guide
This guide has been prepared to assist practicing structural engineers and architects to design steel stud brick veneer systems for commercial and high rise residential buildings. Low rise residential buildings are excluded because they generally have less exposure to environmental and structural loads.
Steel stud brick veneer walls are designed to resist out-of-plane wind and earthquake loads and to provide an environmental separation between internal and external conditions. The relevant structural and building science principles are reviewed. General guidelines for the detailing of these walls are provided along with some specific structural design recommendations. The reference section includes an extensive list of background documents that were relied on in the production of the guide.
